TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) —Actor Danny Glover joined striking workers at a rally in Terre Haute Saturday.
Glover said he was proud that the strikers refused to be victimized. The 63-year-old actor says he grew up in a union household and says the working class is one big family.
The Tribune-Star of Terre Haute says the rally of about 350 people was held in support of Workers United Local 1426 at Bemis Co.'s Polyethylene Packaging Division plant.
More than 700 workers began striking on July 21 after the union rejected the company's contract offer. The union says it made an offer to continue bargaining while employees worked without a contract, but Bemis refused the offer.
Federal mediation between Bemis Co. and the union is slated to begin Monday.
