OAKES, N.D. (AP) — A plant in the southeast North Dakota city of Oakes that was slated for closure at the end of August was saved when it was bought by a locally owned company.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple says Harris Machine Co. has purchased the JLG Industries plant in the community of about 1,700 people and plans to expand it. Terms weren't disclosed.

Wisconsin-based parent company Oshkosh Corp. used the plant to make parts for military equipment. The facility was slated for closure two years ago but local and state officials worked with North Dakota's congressional delegation to keep it open. Had it closed on Wednesday, more than 50 people would have lost their jobs.
