TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — One of Toyota's first models sold in the United States should soon be on display at the Tupelo Automobile Museum.
WTVA-TV (http://bit.ly/p7OUGu ) reports the museum is restoring a dark blue Toyopet Crown Deluxe.
The Toyopet was first sold in the United States in 1958 for $2,300. The small sedan was manufactured only a few years.
Museum curator Allen McDaniel says restoration of the car in Tupelo should be finished by December. Right now, the engine works but the brakes do not.
McDaniel says a local Toyota dealer and other businesses are paying for the project.
Toyota is set to opening a manufacturing plant in 2012 in Blue Springs, near Tupelo.
