CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Federal workplace safety regulators have proposed $176,000 in fines for potentially fatal safety violations at a Concord manufacturing plant.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Thursday it was proposing the fines for 16 violations at Stowe Woodward LLC's plant. The facility employs 29 people and makes rubber covers for metal rolls used mostly in paper manufacturing.

OSHA said during inspections in March and August it found propane tanks stored next to an exit, cranes and forklifts that weren't inspected as required, and a failure to provide proper protective barriers for lathes, grinders and other machines.

A spokesman for Stowe Woodward tells The Concord Monitor (http://bit.ly/ntfzPg) the company hasn't decided whether to contest the fines and is meeting with OSHA representatives later this month to discuss the case.
