WINDSOR, Ont. — Chrysler will begin rotating layoffs next week at its minivan plant in Windsor, Ont. as it reacts to a supply problem with its new engines, the company said Friday.

The automaker said production of the Pentastar 3.7-litre V-6 engine has slowed at a plant in Trenton, Mich.

A Chrysler spokeswoman said the company continues to monitor the situation, and hopes the problem will be resolved in about a month.

Beginning Monday, the minivan plant will run two shifts instead of three for most weeks until until engine product returns to normal.

The shifts will take turns in being idled for a week at a time.

An exception will be the week of Nov. 7 when there will be three shifts each of the working days apart from the Remembrance Day holiday.

The shortened schedule will resume for an additional week on Nov. 14.
