Walmart Plans Indiana Distribution Center

Walmart says it will build a new distribution center in central Indiana and have perhaps 300 employees there in the next couple years.

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (AP) -- Walmart says it will build a new distribution center in central Indiana and have perhaps 300 employees there in the next couple years.

The company announced Thursday it would build the 1.2 million square-foot facility in a Plainfield industrial park that's near Indianapolis International Airport.

Walmart says the new center will fill online orders after it opens early next year. The company says it expects to start hiring for full-time jobs at the center in October.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says it offered Walmart up to $2.9 million in tax credits and $200,000 in training grants based on the company's hiring plans. Plainfield officials might provide more incentives to the company.
