PARIS (AP) — Airbus says it's raising prices by an average of 6.1 percent on its A320neo family of short- and medium-haul single aisle jets that airlines ordered in record numbers last year.

The A320neo lists for €96.7 million each but airlines negotiate discounts for bulk orders.

The world's biggest jet maker by units said Wednesday it would raise the average list price for the rest of its aircraft, including the A380 super jumbo, by 3.9 percent.

The A320neo is a modified version of the existing A320 workhorse jet with improved engines and modified wingtips to make it allegedly 15 percent more fuel-efficient than Boeing's 737.

The plane starts delivering in 2015 but Airbus is taking orders now to cash in on airlines' need to reduce fuel costs and cut carbon dioxide emissions.
