RAVENNA, Neb. (AP) — A Texas-based company plans to produce wet pet food ingredients at a former cheese plant it's bought in south-central Nebraska.

Officials say Darling Ingredients Inc., of Irving, Texas, bought the plant in Ravenna (ruh-VA'-nuh) once operated by Leprino (luh-PREE'-noh) Foods. The former cheese plant closed in November 2013, costing the area more than 170 jobs.

Darren Robinson is president of the Economic Development Council of Buffalo County, and he says Darling already has begun renovations at the plant and has plans to hire 20-25 people this summer for two production shifts. The need for a third shift will be evaluated next year.

Robinson says Darling's "$11 million total investment in Ravenna is a reflection of Darling's commitment."
