SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Agency of Agriculture is going to be gathering opinions on proposed new federal food safety rules.

The Agriculture agency and the Northeast Association of State Departments of Agriculture will host a Nov. 17 hearing to offer farmers and food processors an opportunity to comment on the new supplemental rules proposed by the federal Food Safety Modernization Act.

The food safety act aims to ensure the safety of the U.S. food supply by shifting the focus from responding to contamination to preventing it.

The meeting is geared toward regional farmers and food processors, but it's open to all.

The meeting is going to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vermont Law School in South Royalton.
