Beatrice Bakery Leaves Bankruptcy

Beatrice Bakery Co., the maker of Grandma's Fruitcake, has left bankruptcy. Before the bankruptcy, Beatrice Bakery had been featured on the Food Network's "Unwrapped" program and ABC's "The View."

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — Beatrice Bakery Co., the maker of Grandma's Fruitcake, has left bankruptcy.

The Beatrice Daily Sun reports that company CEO Greg Leech says the company is in its best financial shape in years.

Before the bankruptcy, Beatrice Bakery had been featured on the Food Network's "Unwrapped" program and ABC's "The View."

Leech says the company was forced into Chapter II bankruptcy last July because of a lawsuit by a shareholder. That shareholder and others had lent the company money that wasn't being repaid.

Leech says efforts to make the company more financially stable included minimal workforce cuts.

The original Grandma's Fruitcake remains a key product, but Beatrice Bakery has added to its line liqueur cakes, artisan cakes, breakfast breads and kosher cakes, as well as all-natural and no-sugar-added products.
