SMITHFIELD, Va. (AP) — Pork producer Smithfield Foods Inc. is opening a restaurant in its headquarters town to display its products.
The Smithfield, Va.-based company plans to open the Taste of Smithfield restaurant on Tuesday. Customers can buy salads and sandwiches made with Smithfield pork products as well as ribs and burgers.
CEO C. Larry Pope says he hopes the restaurant will attract more visitors to Smithfield and give the company a place to showcase its products. Smithfield's brands include Smithfield, Armour and Farmland.
The restaurant shares a new two-story, 8,700-square-foot building with the company's retail store, the Genuine Smithfield Ham Shoppe.
