Allergy Concern Prompts Hostess Muffin Recall

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Hostess Brands, Inc., on Thursday said it is recalling chocolate chip mini-muffin multi-packs because some may contain banana nut muffins with walnuts that aren't mentioned on the label. Walnuts can cause serious illness or a life-threatening reaction in those who are allergic.

The muffins come in four-packs of five muffins each and have a best-by date of Oct. 31 and a UPC code of 45000-60703.

The error occurred when some Banana Nut Mini Muffins were accidentally inserted into Chocolate Chip mini muffin packaging in what Hostess called "operator error." Chocolate Chip mini muffins do not normally contain walnuts.

The problem involved just one day's production, and no other Hostess products are involved.

People who bought the packs can return them to stores for a refund or contact Hostess Brands Consumer Affairs Office at 1-800-483-7253 for a replacement coupon.
