Sara Lee To Cut Salt Content

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) — Sara Lee Corp. said Wednesday it plans to cut the salt in certain products by 20 percent over the next five years, in response to consumer requests for less salt. The products include its fresh bread, hot dogs, lunchmeat, breakfast foods and cooked sausage sold under its Jimmy Dean, Ball Park, Hillshire Farm and Sara Lee brands.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) — Sara Lee Corp. said Wednesday it plans to cut the salt in certain products by 20 percent over the next five years, in response to consumer requests for less salt.

The products include its fresh bread, hot dogs, lunchmeat, breakfast foods and cooked sausage sold under its Jimmy Dean, Ball Park, Hillshire Farm and Sara Lee brands.

The company said it has already lowered the salt content of some lunchmeat and fresh breads.

Shares of Sara Lee, based in Downers Grove, Ill., fell 11 cents to $12.24 in late afternoon trading Wednesday.
