LAUREL, Miss. (AP) — Sanderson Farms Inc. says it plans to possibly locate a new $94 million poultry complex near Goldsboro, N.C. that would employ about 1,100 people.
The Laurel, Miss.-based company said Monday the plan is contingent on state and local economic incentives, obtaining property and permits and approval of Sanderson Farm lenders of a change to its revolving credit agreement.
The project calls for an expansion of the feed mill for the company's plant in Kinston, N.C., a hatchery, a processing plant that can handle 1.2 million chickens per week and a wastewater treatment facility.
Sanderson Farms said it wants to begin construction in the second quarter of fiscal 2011 and open the complex in the third quarter of fiscal 2012.
