ST. LOUIS (AP) — Monsanto Co., the world's biggest seed maker, on Tuesday said it is opening its first research center in China.
The Monsanto Biotechnology Research Center in Beijing will boost Monsanto's ties with Chinese research institutions in plant biotechnology and genomics.
The center will serve as a base for collaborations with Chinese scientists.
Monsanto also has research centers in the United States, Brazil and India.
In its most recent quarter, Monsanto posted a bigger fourth-quarter loss because of slumping sales for its Roundup herbicide amid generic competition.
