European conglomerate Unilever last week announced an agreement to acquire New York-based condiments company Sir Kensington’s.

The food and personal care products giant — which also owns Hellman's, Ben & Jerry's and Lipton — said that Sir Kensington's saw strong growth in recent years and complemented Unilever's sustainability goals.

Sir Kensington’s makes ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and a vegan spread called Fabanaise; the company says its products are verified by the Non-GMO Project and produced without artificial ingredients.

"Sir Kensington’s is an innovative business with outstanding products and a leader in the organic and natural marketplace," said Unilever North America President Kees Kruythoff. "We look forward to leveraging our joint understanding of food trends and consumer preferences to significantly grow the business.”

Mark Ramadan and Scott Norton, who founded Sir Kensington’s in 2010, will continue to lead the company as a Unilever subsidiary. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Working with Unilever will allow us to more rapidly expand distribution while holding true to our values as we help define the next generation of good food," Norton said.
