A Kansas City biodiesel plant plans to expand, allowing it to increase production by 40 percent.

Paseo Biofuels LLC produces 40 million gallons of biodiesel and 30 million pounds of food-grade glycerin per year. The plant opened in 2008 and plans to finish its expansion in March 2013. The facility is a joint venture of Paseo and Cargill and is near the Paseo Bridge in Kansas City.

The plant discussed its expansion plans Wednesday. Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon traveled to Kansas City for the announcement. Nixon says the plant helps to expand markets for Missouri farmers.
