Ashland Inc. company officials say they have discontinued production at an Elkton manufacturing facility and plan to tear it down.

Gary Rhodes, director of corporate communications for Kentucky-based Ashland, says most of the business associated with the site was sold to Celanese Corp. earlier this year. He says production at the factory ceased in July.

The factory on West Main Street made emulsion polymers, which are used in paints, adhesives, textile, paper and construction.

Rhodes tells The News Journal of Wilmington, Del., (http://tinyurl.com/8wyq3h2) that the manufacturing space will be demolished to clear the land for sale. He says no decisions have been made about the remaining structures on the site, including an office building and warehouse.
