Gas Line Explosion Injures Four Workers

Utility officials say four workers have been slightly hurt in a natural gas pipeline explosion and fire at a North Texas site.

MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Utility officials say four workers have been slightly hurt in a natural gas pipeline explosion and fire at a North Texas site.

Jennifer Ryan with Atmos (AT'-muhs) Energy says six contract workers in McKinney were doing upgrades Tuesday morning when a track hoe struck the pipeline. The excavation was part of a system improvement project.

Ryan says the workers were transported to a McKinney hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The line was closed following the accident and the residual gas burned off. The fire was out by midday Tuesday.

Ryan says Atmos will assess the damage, make plans to repair the pipeline and restore gas to about 1,000 customers that lost service during the outage.

McKinney is 30 miles north of Dallas.
