NIAGARA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a plant worker was injured when thousands of pounds of aluminum powder exploded in a warehouse in western New York, sparking a fire that caused minor damage to the building.

Niagara County Sheriff's officials said the Stollberg, Inc. worker was treated at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital and released.

Authorities say about 4,500 pounds of aluminum powder exploded in a railroad car about 9:30 p.m. Friday. Residents within a half-mile of the plant in Niagara were asked to stay in their homes and keep windows and doors shut until morning.
