SAFER PRODUCTS: More than 400 companies selling personal care products from shampoo to cosmetics have removed ingredients that are potentially hazardous and already banned by health authorities in other countries.
LONG BATTLE: The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Chemicals, a coalition of consumer, health and environmental groups, spent seven years working with companies to get them to remove harmful ingredients and list all the ingredients on their products.
NEXT FIGHT: The campaign is lobbying for the federal Safe Cosmetics Act. It would update cosmetics regulations dating from 1938.
