Heads of Shell, Unilever Call for Political Action

Chief executives of major companies, including Shell and Unilever, have called on European leaders to take action to resolve Europe's financial crisis.

AMSTERDAM (AP) — The chief executives of five major Dutch companies, including Shell and consumer products giant Unilever, have called on European leaders to take action to resolve Europe's financial crisis.

In an open letter, the executives urged politicians to "show courage and act decisively" to restore monetary and financial stability.

The executives didn't say how, but noted that they oppose "protectionism and nationalism."

They said politicians should save the euro, integrate markets and cut regulations.

The letter was signed by Shell's Peter Voser, Unilever's Paul Polman, as well as Frans van Houten of Philips, the world's biggest lighting maker, Feike Sijbesma of food supplements maker DSM and Hans Wijers of paintmaker Akzo Nobel.
