HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) -- The maker of Tofurky, Turtle Island Foods, is building a $10 million food processing plant in Hood River.
The plant will open next year and eventually employ as many as 100 people.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/p5xz4N) the building will rely on solar power to heat its water.
In addition to Tofurky, Turtle Island makes soy-based deli slices, sausages and pizzas that are sold in more than 4,000 natural food and grocery stores in the United States and Canada. The Hood River company currently has a work force of 73.
