Report: Chrysler Request May Signal Expansion

Newspaper reports that a Chrysler Group LLC request for a local tax break suggests it plans to expand an Ohio Jeep plant and add over 1,100 jobs.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- A newspaper reports that a Chrysler Group LLC request for a local tax break suggests the company plans to expand an Ohio Jeep plant and add more than 1,100 jobs.

The Blade newspaper of Toledo reports (http://bit.ly/qrNchV) Chrysler isn't confirming the details of its application for a tax abatement from the city. A company statement says any decision to invest in the Toledo facility hangs on final approval of state and local incentives.

The application will be discussed Thursday at a meeting of Toledo city and school district leaders. Mayor Mike Bell says "this will be a great day," based on what officials have learned.

The Blade reports Chrysler's paperwork indicates the company wants to invest at least $365 million in the plant and add a second shift.
