MIAMI (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Earl threatened on Saturday to become the next hurricane to form over the Atlantic Ocean as Hurricane Danielle weakened to a Category 2 storm, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Earl is "heading toward the Leeward Islands in a hurry" and is forecast to become a hurricane on Sunday, the Miami-based hurricane center said.

The storm's top sustained winds strengthened to 65 miles an hour and triggered tropical storm warnings and watches across several Caribbean nations and territories. It was about 570 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, with the storm's center approaching there on Sunday.
