Two lawmakers from Illinois want a company to reconsider plans to move 1,000 jobs from its munitions-making operation in East Alton to Mississippi.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Congressman Jerry Costello wrote a letter to Olin Corp. CEO Joseph Rupp about moving the Winchester Ammunition Division's Centerfire operations. They say the 1,000 jobs are critical to the Illinois region's economy.

The Democratic lawmakers asked for a meeting with Rupp and noted that they'd worked hard to help Winchester win government contracts over the years for the Missouri-based company.

An Olin spokesman hasn't returned a call seeking comment Wednesday.
