WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Officials overseeing the state-run Port of Wilmington have agreed to acquire the DuPont Co.'s former Edgemoor chemical plant site.
The Diamond State Port Corp. plans to buy the 114-acre property from DuPont spinoff Chemours for $10 million.
DuPont manufactured titanium dioxide, a whitening pigment, at Edgemoor before Chemours shuttered it last year.
DSPC officials have said expansion is vital to the port's survival.
Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock, chairman of the DSPC, says the purchase doesn't guarantee a new port facility will be built at Edgemoor, but that it provides a valuable option to market to potential investors.
Bullock says the Edgemoor site, located north of the port along the Delaware River, will be marketed along with the Riveredge property, located south of the port, as the primary expansion options.
