MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. (AP) — A French fragrance company is scrapping plans to build a manufacturing and research plant in northern New Jersey amid public outcry over possibly offensive odors coming from the facility.
Morris Plains Mayor Frank Druetzler tells the Daily Record of Parsippany (http://dailyre.co/2aOD9p5 ) that the property's current owner told him Mane USA broke its purchase contract for the 28-acre piece of land. He says the firm also has withdrawn an application it had filed with the town's planning board.
Druetzler, who sits on the borough's planning board, called the news "terrible."
Hanover Township and some residents had opposed the plant proposal due to the property's location near a residential development.
