SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) — Two people died in an apparent murder-suicide Thursday morning at a Cummins Inc. engine factory in southern Indiana, police said.
Preliminary reports indicate one person was fatally shot at the Cummins plant in Seymour and that the assailant then died by suicide, state police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles told The Associated Press.
Police have yet to release information about their identities or the circumstances of their deaths. The shooting at the factory some 60 miles south of Indianapolis was reported to police about 8:45 a.m., Wheeles said.
Cummins spokesman Jon Mills said the company's facilities in the Seymour and Columbus areas were placed on lockdown to check on all employees after the shooting. The (Seymour) Tribune reported that police officers surrounded the building and that workers were being escorted outside.
The Cummins Seymour Engine Plant has several hundred employees. The Columbus-based company makes generators and engines used in trucking, farming and construction equipment.
