Today, Deputy Secretary Antony Blinken presented the 17th annual Secretary of State's Awards for Corporate Excellence (ACE) to Cargill Vietnam Ltd, East Bali Cashews, and Weyerhaeuser Productos S.A. The ACE recognizes U.S. businesses that exhibit responsible business conduct around the world in supporting sustainable development, respect for human rights and labor rights, environmental protection, open markets, transparency and advancing democratic values.

For the first time, the ACE was given in three distinct award categories, designed to align with foreign policy priorities.

Award for Corporate Excellence in Human Rights and Labor Rights: Cargill Vietnam Ltd. in Vietnam. The company demonstrated a long-term commitment to investing in its farmer-partners in cocoa and other sectors by supporting community health, training over 12,000 farmers in sustainable production techniques, and utilizing technology to share pricing information with farmers, the government, and other stakeholders to promote transparency. Cargill Vietnam's Cargill Cares school building program has built and delivered 76 schools across rural communities. These schools benefit more than 13,000 children per year.

Award for Corporate Excellence for a Small or Medium Enterprise: East Bali Cashews in Indonesia. This cashew producer employed 350 people in the local rural community, 85 percent of whom were previously unemployed women; improved the quality of local agricultural production and modernized its methods; and expanded services to address the health and education needs of more than 800 children of company employees.

Award for Corporate Excellence in Environmental Sustainability: Weyerhaeuser Productos S.A. in Uruguay. This renewable forest-product company built a 100 percent clean-energy facility capable of supplying electricity to 40,000 residents, launched a project certified to remove an average of 56,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and has been recognized as a "Project of National Interest" by the government of Uruguay.

The winners were chosen from among ten outstanding finalists. The other seven finalists include Gigawatt Global in Rwanda, Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C. in Hong Kong, I-DEV International in Peru, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited in Ghana, Runa LLC in Ecuador, Tegu in Honduras, and Texas Instruments, Inc. in the Philippines.
