NEW YORK (AP) — Beauty products maker Estee Lauder is buying French fragrance brand By Kilian to bolster its portfolio of luxury fragrances.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Estee Lauder says the addition of By Kilian's high-end boutique products, many with keepsake-style packaging, matches the company's goal to build on its "ultra-luxury" product lines, which include Clinique, Tom Ford Beauty and Aramis.
By Kilian sells a variety of luxury fragrances, some of which are exclusive to certain regions, including New York, Moscow and Doha. The company also offers scented jewelry, scented candles that sell for as much as $235, and a black-lacquered matchbox listed for $145 on its website.
The New York-based Estee Lauder Companies Inc. sells its products in more than 150 countries. It reported net sales of $10.78 billion and net earnings of $1.1 billion for fiscal year 2015.
Estee Lauder shares rose 7 cents to $91.79 in afternoon trading Thursday. Its shares are up 12 percent in over the past year.
