JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Biewer Lumber is bringing a state-of-the-art sawmill to Newton, Mississippi, that will create 125 jobs.

Construction of the new sawmill is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2016, with mill production expected to begin in early 2017.

Once operational, officials said in a news release Monday that the new facility will expand the company's mill production into the South and represents an $85 million investment. Currently, St. Clair, Michigan-based Biewer Lumber operates four Midwest-based sawmills and three treatment/distribution centers.

Biewer Lumber owner Timothy Biewer says the move will allow the company to better serve its customers and expand its customer base geographically.

Biewer Lumber manufactures and distributes lumber and building materials for use by contractors, builders and do-it-yourselfers.
