WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A former employee of IBM Corp. in China has been charged with stealing one of the company's valuable trade secrets — a computer code that it spends millions of dollars annually to protect.

Xu Jiaqiang is being held without bail in Westchester County after his Monday arrest in White Plains, New York. He appeared Tuesday in White Plains federal court on a charge that he stole a trade secret.

His lawyer, Jason Ser, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

IBM was not identified in court papers. But Xu said in his social media pages that he worked for the company during the time period when prosecutors say he stole valuable source code to sell to other companies.

IBM declined through a spokesman to comment on the arrest.
