Boeing Receives Secretary of Defense Performance-Based Logistics Award

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 25, 2010 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced that the Boeing and government team supporting the AH-64D Apache helicopter Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) program has received the 2010 Secretary of Defense PBL Award, Sub-system Level. The awards are presented to government/industry PBL program teams that have demonstrated exceptional operational readiness.

U.S. Army Apache materiel availability and readiness was 92 percent in 2010, compared with the contracted 85 percent requirement.

"The Apache PBL program takes a proactive support approach which uses modeling, forecasting and planning tools to position the right components, with the right quantities, in the right place, at the right time," said Col. Shane Openshaw, Army project manager for Apache helicopters. "The program capitalizes on the knowledge and shared intellect from the warfighter, the Apache team, Boeing and Boeing's suppliers."

"Drawing on the best of Boeing and working together with our industry partners allows us to offer customers sustainment solutions tailored to their specific needs," said Jim O'Neill, vice president and general manager, Boeing Integrated Logistics. "Boeing is committed to providing excellent support to our Army customer, and our Apache PBL program is an example of doing just that – ensuring aircraft readiness while reducing logistics costs."

Boeing Army Integrated Logistics and its Apache Worldwide Support group, including the Apache PBL program, use public/private partnerships to provide a full range of innovative products and services to maximize the readiness of Apaches fielded around the world, including obsolescence management; spares and repairs; demand forecasting; and inventory optimization.
