Curt Espeland Named CFO of the Year

KINGSPORT, Tenn., June 27, 2011 – Curt Espeland, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN), has been named the 2011 CFO of the Year by IHS Chemical Week. Espeland received the award at a ceremony in New York on June 22.

This award was established in 2001 to recognize and honor the best in the chemical industry for financial leadership. It is given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution through vision and leadership, corporate reporting and performance, social responsibility, innovation, and global competitiveness. The winner is selected by a survey of analysts in the chemical industry and Chemical Week editors.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the incredible people at Eastman who dedicate themselves to achieving outstanding financial results and providing a high quality of communication to our stakeholders,” said Espeland. “This award is a direct reflection of the strength of Eastman, our leadership, and our world-class financial organization.”

In July 2010, Eastman was recognized as a world-class performer in finance by The Hackett Group, Inc., a global strategic advisory firm.

Espeland graduated with distinction from Iowa State University with a BBA in accounting in 1986, and in 2002, he received an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2008. Since joining Eastman in 1996, Espeland has held multiple corporate and business finance positions and was appointed to his current position in 2008.
