CHICAGO (AP) -- Paperboard and paper-based packaging products maker Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. said Chief Financial Officer John Murphy resigned.
The company said late Thursday he resigned to "pursue other interests." He joined the company in May 2009.
Chairman and CEO Patrick J. Moore will lead the finance department until a permanent successor to Murphy is named.
Smurfit-Stone is the largest producer of cardboard box materials in North America. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year to restructure its debt amid a global credit freeze.
