Airbus Says A400M Ready To Fly

European plane maker says its troubled A400M military transport plane could finally make its maiden flight toward the end of next week.

PARIS (AP) -- Airbus says its troubled A400M military transport plane could finally make its maiden flight toward the end of next week.

Airbus Military spokeswoman Barbara Kracht said a precise date has not been set because tests have not finished and they don't know the weather.

A German Defense Ministry spokesman said Friday the flight could take place Dec. 10 or 11, with the 11th looking more probable. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.

The A400M is one of Europe's most ambitious joint military-industrial undertakings -- and it is running at least three years late and over budget. Governments from the seven countries with planes on order are in talks with Airbus parent EADS over the project's future.
