Alaskan Shipyard Delivers First Vessel

Shipyard in Ketchikan is celebrating the delivery of the first steel marine vessel manufactured in Alaska for export in the international shipping market.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- The shipyard in Ketchikan is celebrating the delivery of the first steel marine vessel manufactured in Alaska for export in the international shipping market.

Gov. Sean Parnell will be on hand Tuesday for the ceremony to deliver the Chevron Legacy.

The Ketchikan shipyard is owned by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority and operated by Alaska Ship & Drydock, Inc. The Chevron Legacy is the first vessel delivered since the shipyard was expanded and improved.

The 116-foot vessel will replace Chevron's Coal Harbour Marina in Vancouver, British Columbia, and double the current facility's diesel fueling capacity.
