Brown-Forman Appoints New COO

Liquor company said Wednesday it named Mark McCallum as chief operating officer, replacing James L. Bareuther effective May 1.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Liquor company Brown-Forman Corp. said Wednesday it named Mark McCallum as chief operating officer, replacing James L. Bareuther effective May 1.

McCallum joined Brown-Forman in 2003 as chief marketing officer for the company's spirits brands. Prior to joining the company, he worked for Darden Restaurants and Campbell Soup Co., among others.

Bareuther has been appointed to a new position of executive vice president for global business development effective May 1.

Bareuther has been with the company since 1994 and reaches the company's mandatory retirement age next year.

"With about 18 months until his retirement, we both believe this is a good time to take the step we are announcing today," said Chief Executive Paul Varga in a statement.

Brown-Forman produces and markets Jack Daniel's, Southern Comfort and Woodford Reserve, among other brands.

Shares of the company declined 61 cents to $42.84 in morning trading.
