Calgon Chairman Retires, CEO To Take Top Spot

Calgon CEO Thomas McConomy has retired as chairman of its board of directors, as required under company rules.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Calgon Carbon Corp., which makes air and water filters, said Friday Thomas McConomy has retired as chairman of its board of directors.

McConomy, 73, was required to retire from the board under company rules. He joined the company as a service engineer in 1955 and served as the company's chief executive in 1994 and again from 1998 to 1999.

The company said acting chief executive John Stanik, 53, will succeed McConomy as chairman of the board. Stanik joined the company's board of directors in October 2003.
