Hooker Furniture Completes Purchase Of Sam Moore Furniture

Sam Moore will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hooker; management team will remain in place.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Hooker Furniture Corp., a manufacturer of wood, metal and upholstered furniture, announced Monday that it has completed its acquisition of Sam Moore Furniture, a chair manufacturer, from La-Z-Boy Inc.

The Sam Moore Furniture business will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hooker.

According to Paul B. Toms Jr., chairman, CEO and president of Hooker, the acquisition will help the company to diversify its business and offer a more complete upholstery line.

The management team at Sam Moore will remain with the company, said Toms, including Mike Moldenhauer who will continue as president and CEO of Sam Moore.

Hooker expects that revenues from Sam Moore will help replace revenues lost as a result of the closing of Hooker’s domestic wood furniture manufacturing operations in Roanoke and Martinsville, Va. in the past year.

Hooker has about 1,000 employees and operates manufacturing plants, several distribution centers, warehouses and showrooms and a corporate office in Virginia and North Carolina.
