Flexible Flyer Is Grounded In Mississippi, 100 To Lose Jobs

Manufacturer of swing sets and hobby horses closing West Point plant due to foreign competition and excess production capacity.

WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) - Flexible Flyer, which manufactures swing sets and hobby horses in West Point, will shut down in June, according to local economic development officials.

About 100 people will lose their jobs.

Tim Climer, executive director of the West Point/Clay County Community Growth Alliance, said Monday that the Troxel Co. of Moscow, Tenn., is closing the plant because of competition from overseas markets and excessive production capacity.

All work will now be done at its main facility in Moscow, Climer said. He said none of the jobs from the West Point plant will be moving to the other plant.

This is the second time the facility has been threatened with closure.

The first time was in 2005, but a last minute deal led to Troxel taking over.
