Missouri Furniture-Maker O'Sullivan Closing Plant; 735 To Lose Jobs

O'Sullivan Industries shutting down manufacturing facility in Lamar by October 2007.

LAMAR, Mo. (AP) - O'Sullivan Industries has announced plans to close its plant in southwest Missouri, The Joplin Globe reported Monday.

The plant, which employs 735 people, would close as soon as July and no later than October, the newspaper reported on its Web site. Some employees were expected to be terminated immediately and some would remain during the transition period, the newspaper said. All employees would be terminated by the end of the transition.

Calls to the company seeking comment were not immediately returned Monday evening.

According to its Web site, O'Sullivan Industries, headquartered in Atlanta, designs, manufactures and distributes ready-to-assemble furniture and related products. The company employs about 1,100 people.
