Paper Manufacturer Stora Enso Names New CEO

Jouko Karvinen will take over on March 29.

Stora Enso said Tuesday it has named Jouko Karvinen as its new chief executive officer. Karvinen will join the company on January 1, 2007, and take over as CEO following the annual meeting on March 29. He will succeed Jukka Härmälä, who will stay on with the company in a different role through August.

Karvinen is currently serving as CEO of Philips Medical Systems Division and as a member of the Board of Management of Royal Philips Electronics.

Karvinen holds a Master of Science degree in Electronics and Industril Economics from Tapere University of Technology in Finland, and has had a 25-year career in industrial automation and healthcare technologies for business-to-business markets.

Stora Enso is an integrated paper, packaging, and forest products company, producing publication and fine paper, packaging board, and wood products. In 2005, Stora Enso had sales of $16.5 billion, and it has 46,000 employees in more than 40 countries.
