Nova Chemicals ' Canadian Plant Operating Again & After Accidental Shutdown

Stoppage expected to cost company $8 million in second quarter.

Nova Chemicals, a producer of polymers used to make plastics and foam, said Wednesday a Canadian facility has returned to normal operations after an accidental shutdown.

Nova said on June 21 the inadvertent activation of a process shutdown switch caused production to stop temporarily at its plant in Corunna, Ontario, causing minor damage.

The plant was back in full production with its expected two weeks time frame, but Nova said the shutdown is expected to cut second-quarter net income by $8 million and third-quarter income by $3 million.

The activation of the switch was apparently caused by a contractor employee installing structural steel platforms, Nova said at the time.
