Anheuser-Busch InBev is reacting to public protests on social media for a marketing campaign slogan on bottles of its Bud Light brand. The slogan printed on bottles reads:
"The perfect beer for removing 'no' from your vocabulary for the night #UpForWhatever"
This is only one of several slogans printed on Bud Light bottles as part of their #UpForWhatever campaign. Criticism has focused on the poor choice of words during a time when public outcry over date rape on college campuses is at an all-time high.
“This grossly shortsighted marketing tactic shows an epic lack of understanding of the dangers associated with excessive alcohol consumption, such as sexual assault and drunk driving. We need responsible companies to help us tackle these serious public health and safety problems, not encourage them.”
This is the second time the campaign has been scrutinized. Just last month, on St. Patrick’s Day, the company got about the same backlash from this Tweet:
