A Cameron Parish-based company has received a $5 million federal grant to develop geothermal technologies to cut carbon pollution from power generation.

The federal Energy Department is sending the money to Louisiana Geothermal. Geothermal is a technique using the earth's heat to produce energy resources.

While encouraging the development of geothermal resources, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu says he hopes to create jobs in geothermal manufacturing and operations.

The grant is part of $20 million awarded nationally to seven geothermal projects.
