Eastman Chemical Co. spent $370,000 in the second quarter to lobby the government on issues related to energy, climate change and research funding, according to a recent disclosure report.

The total compared with $270,000 that the company spent on lobbying efforts in the year-ago quarter and was even with what it spent in the first quarter.

Issues addressed by the manufacturer of coatings and specialty plastics included provisions in energy and climate-change legislation that would affect energy-intensive industries, as well as chemical and water security.

The company also lobbied on funding for fossil and renewable energy technology; the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act and environmental issues.

In addition to Congress, Eastman Chemical lobbied the Energy Department, according to the report filed July 20 with the House clerk's office.
