Williams Reaches Deal To Supply Nova Chemicals

Tulsa-based Williams said it will produce up to 17,000 barrels a day of ethane and ethylene for Nova Chemicals, which is Canada's biggest plastics producer.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Williams Cos. Inc. says it has reached a deal to supply ethane and ethylene to Nova Chemicals Corp.

Under the deal, Tulsa-based Williams said Monday it will produce up to 17,000 barrels a day of ethane and ethylene for Nova Chemicals, which is Canada's biggest plastics producer.

Williams plans to invest about $318 million to expand its two primary facilities in the Canadian province of Alberta to support the new agreement.

The company says the expansions of its Fort McMurray and Redwater plants should begin operating in the first quarter of 2013 and will allow Williams to produce the chemicals from its operations that process off-gas from Alberta's oil sands.

Rory Miller, president of Williams' midstream business, says the deal is "a significant growth opportunity" for Williams in Canada.
