GE Buys Remote Energy

ATLANTA (AP) -- General Electric bought Remote Energy Monitoring, Ltd., a company with operations in the United Kingdom and Australia.

GE said Tuesday that the deal will help the company address the lower-emission power generation goals of the European Union.

Remote Energy Monitoring's designs software and hardware tool that let utility companies monitor and manage their energy usage, making power plants more efficient.

Financial terms of the deal were not released. The transaction closed Jan. 11, according to GE.

Shares of the company rose 28 cents, or 1.5 percent, in midday trading to $18.79.
